The open space serves as a clear separation between the front zone along Baslerstrasse and the inner gardens, which are being developed as part of the garden city concept.
The spacious front zone can occasionally be used as a driveway for deliveries and as loading bays within our property boundaries. The asphalt surface is interspersed with unpaved but walkable islands, which create a continuous and flexible space and contribute to the concepts of the sponge city and the microclimate.
The square is the most important gathering place for future residents to interact with one another and with the rest of the neighborhood. The central paved area features a group of trees with seating, which serves as a continuous and flexible space for organizing neighborhood events.
The garden consists, on the one hand, of a network of paths that connects to the existing paths and, on the other hand, of an organic network of paved areas that divides the various public zones and defines play and relaxation areas by intersecting flower meadows. With a soil layer ranging from 50 cm to small mounds up to 1.5 m thick, an entire “plant topography” is created that ensures the division into public, semi-public, and private spaces. Flower meadows, wildflower meadows, and wild perennials are complemented by trees and shrubs. Eleven new trees provide welcome shade during the warm summer months and have a positive impact on the microclimate.
The vegetation forms a green filter between the public space and the private ground-floor gardens, offering flexible open space that residents can adapt to their needs. Age-appropriate play and recreational facilities are discreetly integrated and blend into the natural design language.
A second pavilion, located in the garden and serving as a pedestrian exit from the underground parking garage, also includes covered bicycle parking. A third bicycle parking area is located west of the garden, between the existing bicycle ramp and the facade of the interior bicycle parking facility.
Along Fabrikstrasse, 10 visitor parking spaces are established on an unpaved surface.
