The green corridor forms the central developmental element of the area and clearly separates residential and commercial zones. As a public movement axis, it connects the Sackmoos Forest with the agricultural landscape up to the Eichholz Forest, creating a continuous green link between the residential areas and the village center of Gerlafingen.
At the same time, it serves as a versatile local recreation area with spaces for staying, resting, and playing. The open spaces of the residential buildings are designed as a sequence of residential alleys and semi-private gardens between the buildings. While the residential alleys serve as access to the buildings and opportunity for social interaction, the gardens provide protected retreats with a high quality of stay for the ground-floor apartments.
Commercial outdoor spaces are designed to be functional and low-maintenance. The vegetation plan creates a smooth transition from the forest-like character of the Sackmooswald to the open cultural landscape with flower meadows and fruit trees.
Green roofs as well as diverse tree and shrub plantings strengthen biodiversity, the microclimate, and seasonal experiential quality. In line with the sponge city principle, sealing is minimized and rainwater is retained via retention areas. This promotes a sustainable water cycle and improves the microclimate.
